Daily Itinerary

Day 01 Houay Xay to Pak Beng on the Mekong River (L/D)

The Luang Say Mekong Cruise boat leaves Huay Xay pier at 9:30am for a cruise down the Mekong River to Pakbeng. En route, one stop is made to observe rural life along the Mekong and observe ethnic minorities. A buffet lunch is served on board. We arrive in Pakbeng before sunset and check in at the Luang Say Lodge. Enjoy dinner on the terrace overlooking the Mekong.

Day 02 Pak Beng to Luang Prabang on the Mekong River (B/L)

Re-energize with a full breakfast at the Lodge from 7:00 a.m. (optional: walk to Pakbeng Market where locals are selling their goods). At 8:00 a.m. board the boat for the second leg of the cruise. A short stop is made at a hill-tribe village and we visit the Pak Ou Cave, the cave of a thousand Buddhas. Arrive in Luang Prabang early evening for transfer to your hotel.

Day 03 Luang Prabang – UNESCO Heritage City Tour (B/L)

We’ll start the day by visiting some of the most beautiful sites in Luang Prabang. Until 1975, when the Communist Party gained control over Laos, Wat Xieng Thong was the royal temple, supported by the royal family. Wat Visoun temple was constructed during the reign of King Visounarat around 1520. In 1942 it was turned into a Museum of Religious Arts and houses collections of Buddha images and religious artifacts from the fourteenth century.

In the afternoon we will walk up Phousi Mountain, which is studded with many small temples and shrines and offers a panoramic view of Luang Prabang and surrounding mountains. For the best view of the sunset we’ll take you to Wat Phra Baht on the banks of the Mekong River.

Day 04 Luang Prabang – National Museum and more... (B/L)

Optionally, you may rise early to witness the Buddhist Alms (at 6:00am) before touring the bustling morning market. Then you'll visit the National Museum Royal Palace (closed on Tuesday and Sunday afternoon). It houses the Royal throne of the Lane Xang kingdom in its original splendor, in addition to many other religious treasures. Afterward, walk a short distance to visit Wat Mai, built in 1796, which exemplifies the architecture of Luang Prabang. Return to your hotel to rest and collect your belongings before transferring to the airport in the afternoon.
