High water season, August to January:

Day 01 Biking, Trek to Khmu Village, Tad Sae Waterfall, and Zen Nam Khan Resort (L)

Start your day with some soft to medium mountain biking on one of our quality bikes. Cycle out of Luang Prabang, ascend and descend through the Laos countryside about 15 km. We’ll make stops to see sites along the way including Wat Phon Pao with its panoramic view of Luang Prabang, Ban Phanom weaving village, and Henri Mohout’s grave.

Biking ends on the banks of the Nam Khan River at our Tiger Trail Adventure Camp. Cross the river by small boat and begin a 1.5-hour soft trek through stunning jungle to a mountain Khmu village where we’ll have lunch and explore local village life with your guide. The village is nestled on the foot of a big mountain range set in amazing landscape.

Trek off the mountain another 1.5 hours to the refreshing Tad Sae Waterfall (seasonal) where you can relax and cool off with a swim. Refreshed, next take a small boat on the Nam Khan River to The Zen Nam Khan Boutique Resort for a luxurious evening on the banks of the river with an incredible view.

Day 02 Elephant Experience & Kayaking the Nam Khan River (B, L)

Enjoy a leisurely morning at the resort before taking a short boat ride to the Elephant Village between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m. for elephant riding and interaction. You’ll have plenty of time to interact with and ride the incredible elephants and enjoy the sanctuary’s setting on the riverbanks. After riding, enjoy the Elephant Village’s lunch buffet with a view before transfer to our Tiger Trail Adventure Camp to prepare for kayaking.

Launch for an exciting 3-4 hr. kayaking trip through jungle and agricultural land. During the wet season, the river is swollen and moving well with a few grade 1-2 easy rapids and we’ll kayak approximately 19 Km. Complete the day and your tour with transfer return to Luang Prabang city.

Low water season, February to July:

During the low water season, the Tad Sae Waterfall can be very low and even dry. You may explore the area and look at resident elephants at the site, but swimming may be unavailable.

The total distance kayaking will be shortened slightly to 11 Km on day two due to slower flowing water and normally takes from 2 – 2.5 hrs.
