Daily Itinerary

Day 01 Thakhek – Ban Nongping – Xe Bangfai River Cave (223km)

We begin this tour in Thakhet, riding out along a tarmac route up through the limestone mountains in the Khammouane province until we arrive at Mu Gai pass. The journey through one of the largest wartime engineering feats, the Ho Chi Minh Trail, starts here. We will cross over the mighty Xe Bangfai river and ride the trails all the way down to Boulapha district until we enter into Ban Nongping for a homestay. We will visit the caves along the Xe Bangfai river later in the afternoon.

Day 02 Ban Nongping – Villabouri (183km)

Today is a fabulous day riding through major sections of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, past strategically located villages such as Ban Phanop and Ban Hinlap. This route will wind through the mountains and along crater-filled trails still visible fifty years on. There is a cobblestone section that can still be seen, but it is quickly disappearing.

Day 03 Villabouri – Xepon (111km)

Today is generally an easy ride as most of it is tarmac roads. Upon arrival to the guesthouse in Xepon, we will head out to explore the nearby War Museum in Ban Dong. Here we are able to take a fascinating look into the Vietnam War and the battle for Lam Son 719, a tribute to the ‘final victory.’

Day 04 Xepon – Xepon (128km)

Today we will ride our motorbikes out in a large loop around some great trails and up to the famous Ban Raving Pass, which was a major entry point for the North Vietnamese. This area features some sections of cobblestone roads that are still intact after the war, some war scraps that are spread out around the roads, and some beautiful villages that we can visit on the way.

Day 05 Xepon – Saravane (188km)

Today features stunning sections of the Ho Chi Minh trail, river crossings, and a long day riding off-road in the mud. We will stay overnight in Saravane for a well-earned rest.

Day 06 Saravane – Muean Phin (131km)

Today we ride out on the infamous Route 23, which can be an intense ride in certain areas. We will cross the river at the destroyed ‘Red Princess Bridge’ to catch a glimpse into what life was like in the past.

Day 07 Muean Phine – Thakhek (211km)

Today is another great day riding out on the trails north west back to Thakhek. The rural countryside along this route gives way to miles of rice fields and steep mountains along the way. The tour ends where we began in Thakhek.
