Day 01 Luang Prabang Ink & Spiritual Experience (L)

9 am pickup at your hotel, to be fitted with bikes and we cycle to Wat Choum Khong (on the other side of the Mekong from Luang Prabang) to visit a Monk , who is a Buddhist tattoo specialist. He will bless your tattoo design and talk about its significance.

Bike 100 meters to the ferry, and cross the Mekong to Xieng Men village. Xieng Men is very rustic, much more like rural Laos. After riding through the town you come upon a trail that leads to four temples, all along the Mekong river.

Here there is an option to have a Baci ceremony on the river. A village elder will summon your 33 spirits back into your body. This ceremony usually lasts about 30 minutes.

We then cross about 15 meters of the Mekong by small boat to nearby Cucumber Island for a locally prepared lunch. Cucumber Island overlooks Luang Prabang, and has a dozen small bamboo and thatch huts. This is a very local experience and the food is authentic Lao style; grilled fish, papaya salad and sticky rice.

After lunch, you take a small motorboat with bikes and all, down the Mekong for 15 minutes to a dock, where we then bike through local villages to the Tattoo parlor.

Once there you will stay for the duration of your tattoo and afterward bike back to Luang Prabang and be dropped at your hotel.

There is also the option of having the Monk as your tattoo artist and this has to be set up well ahead of time and depends on availability.
