Day 01 An Easy-Paced Exploration of the Nam Ou River (L)

Meet at the office in Nong Khiaw. We’ll start with a quick tuk-tuk transfer to the pier to board our private longtail boat.

Ban Houay Hoy (Lao & Khmu Village) After a scenic 40-minute boat ride, we arrive at our first stop. Spend 20–30 minutes learning about the daily rhythms of this mixed-ethnic community and how they coexist along the riverbanks.

Ban Sop Kong (Khmu & Lao Village) A short cruise brings us to Sop Kong. We’ll spend another 30 minutes here gaining deeper insight into Khmu traditions and the village's agricultural practices.

Ban Sop Chem (The Weaving Village) Enjoy a relaxing 1-hour boat ride through some of the region's most dramatic limestone scenery. Ban Sop Chem is famous for its intricate textiles. You’ll have 40 minutes to watch local weavers at work and learn about the natural dyes and patterns unique to this village.

Muang Ngoi (Lao & Khmu Village) We head back downstream for 30 minutes to the historic town of Muang Ngoi.

• Lunch: Enjoy a traditional Lao picnic lunch with fresh fruit and biscuits.

• Relax or Explore: Spend 90 minutes soaking in the atmosphere. You can choose a gentle 1-hour return walk to the nearby rice fields and a local swimming hole, or simply relax by the river.

Scenic Return to Nong Khiaw Board the boat for the final 1-hour stretch. This is the perfect time for photography as the afternoon light hits the karst mountains. We arrive back in Nong Khiaw and provide a tuk-tuk transfer back to your guesthouse.

Approx 4 hours by boat and 2 hours walking.
