Fair Trek is a community-based tourism initiative, by Tiger Trail Travel, that works with local communities to create authentic travel experiences that leave a positive impact. We bridge the gap between local and tourist to help residents benefit directly from tourism and to share the real Laos with visitors.
We believe tourism can be a powerful force for good
Fair Trek seeks to harness the positive impacts of tourism to help local villages become sustainable communities. By including local residents in tourism development, we ensure that they have fair access to the economic and social benefits of tourism.
We want travelers to have a meaningful experience, too. We encourage you to get out of your comfort zone and connect with the people you meet.
We hope this information clarifies our position on the use of elephants in the tourism industry. We have considered stopping working altogether with elephant camps and we would absolutely do so if the argument was compelling.
Fair Trek is a division of Tiger Trail Travel, a leading destination management company based in Luang Prabang. Founded in 2000, Tiger Trail was one of the pioneers in tourism in Luang Prabang and has since proven to be a leader in sustainable travel in Laos.
In 2007 Tiger Trail created Fair Trek out of a desire to help local communities benefit from tourism. Those early beginnings saw the implementation of innovative community-based tourism initiatives that empowered rural villages to gain direct access to the economic benefits of tourism.
Today, Fair Trek continues to develop programs that are a reflection of our love and respect for Laos. Our community-based tourism initiatives were the first of its kind in Luang Prabang and are widely recognized for their impacts in the Mekong sub-region.
