Getting to Laos
Bordered with 5 countries there are many ways to get into Laos and you can be as adventurous as you dare.
Laos – Luscious landscapes, winding rivers, beautiful people. The country that has an experience to offer everyone, and will ensure you take away long lasting and treasured memories.
Go to bed with quiet majesty of the jungle surrounding you, and wake up overlooking the Nam Khan shrouded in early morning mist as a mahout and his elephant on its riverbanks splash their way into a new day.
A handful of beautiful resorts and lodges have established themselves just outside of Luang Prabang’s town centre to offer a change of pace from the small town bustle. We encourage all of our guests to spend a night or two outside of town exploring for the chance to see the stunning mountain vistas, towering waterfalls and tranquil riverside views at these resorts and lodges.
In addition, Tiger Trail Travel offers combined activity and accommodation packages for these featured resorts. From 2 to 3-day trips involving trekking, zip-lining, and kayaking, to elephant interaction programs and visits to ethnic villages, these resorts offer the best of both worlds. They will allow you to embrace all that Luang Prabang’s natural spaces have to offer, with comfortable accommodation that won’t require to come all the way back into town.
Here are our 4 top picks:
THE HIDDEN VALLEY AWAITS
Both comfortable and affordable, the Hillside Resort is one of our favourites. It sits nestled in a secluded valley, about 13 km away from Luang Prabang surrounded by a teak forest and rice fields with abundant views of the mountains. Hillside’s ambience reflects a coziness marked by traditional-style bungalows built by natural materials (3-bed family bungalows are also available). Take in the fresh mountain air while relaxing in their swimming pool or strolling through their beautiful garden after an adventurous day of trekking or biking. There are also plenty of non-touristy walking trails in the area that lead to undiscovered waterfalls. We can also arrange for you to visit the nearby local village along with Tad Tong and Kuang Si waterfalls amongst other excursions which you can check out below.

THE LAO SPIRIT RESORT
A NATURE LOVER'S PARADISE
Situated along the Nam Khan river, about 10 minutes by boat from Tad Sae Waterfall and 20 minutes outside of Luang Prabang, is the Lao Spirit Resort. With traditionally-styled bungalows built from locally-sourced materials by Lao craftsmen and artists, the resort offers a relaxing jungle oasis right on the river for nature lovers to indulge in. The property features a beautiful tropical garden and a riverside restaurant, which amongst a few other heritage buildings on site, are made from century-old refurbished wooden Lao houses.
The resort is also just a short boat ride from the Tiger Trail Adventure Camp and a few minutes away from the Tad Sae Waterfall and exciting hiking and trekking trails in the surrounding nature and mountains of Laos.
